Then, target those companies and let them know you're available. If you're good at what you do and you've researched companies that need people with your talents, you're doing your next employer a favor by identifying yourself!

Tip: Nothing is a strong as a third-party referral. If you really want to eliminate the competition and discover the "Hidden Job Market", do the following:
1. Develop a 60-second commercial for yourself that explains what it is that you do and are prepared to do for your next employer, but make it simple so that anyone, in any career field, will understand.
2. Network with everyone you know and everyone you meet, and make an effort to meet new people everyday, socially and professionally.
3, Get involved in your community' get visible. Join groups/organizations, then volunteer for committee chairs. Let people see how well you complete assignments. Even volunteer work is work history, whether you get a paycheck or not.
4. Do what others fail to do. Work hard at the hardest job you'll ever have -- getting hired!
